During the manufacture of TiO2, a number of secondary products are produced. These products range from acids, salts, solids, liquids and gases for a variety of industries. Industries as diverse as agriculture, organic and inorganic chemicals processing, construction and water treatment chemicals are being serviced with these products - making them vital ingredients in our day-to-day lives.
Applications for these products include:
- Chromate reduction in cement
- Raw material in the production of plasterboards
- Raw material for pigment production, metal treatment
- Waste and drinking water treatment
- Animal feed

Carbon Dioxide
- Carbon Dioxide is captured at the neutralization plant of our Thann facilities.
- Carbon Dioxide can be supplied to industries like industrial gases or for the production of TV screens, high-purity carbon dioxide for beverage carbonation, food chilling and freezing, and other industrial applications.
Copperas
Copperas is the hepta hydrate form of iron sulfate manufactured during the sulfate titanium dioxide production process. The products are chemically controlled to meet specific customer quality requirements. The main applications for copperas are sewage and industrial effluent treatment.
Copperas is also used for chromate reduction in cement and soil remediation, as a fertilizer additive, in biogas desulfurization and the manufacture of iron oxide pigments.
Gypsum
Gypsum is produced during the TiO2 manufacturing process. The products are chemically controlled to meet specific customer quality requirements. The gypsum produced following our process is of high purity and has a bright white color.
The main product applications for gypsum are plasterboards and cement.
Hydrochloric Acid
Commercial grade Hydrochloric acid (HCl) is manufactured at nearly all of our facilities. The main applications for HCl are metal treatment, the oil and gas industry and as a raw material for the production of water treatment chemicals.
Iron Chlorosulfate
Iron chlorosulfate is produced by adding another process step to the copperas to produce the iron chlorosulfate liquid.
Iron chlorosulfate is mainly used in water treatment, especially sewage and industrial effluent treatment, water purification and sludge conditioning.
Molten Sulfur
Molten sulfur production is chemically controlled to meet specific customer quality requirements.
Molten sulfur is recommended for evaluation in chemical processing.
Sulfuric Acid
Sulfuric acid is produced at our Thann facility for usage in the sulfate TiO2 process. Any excess production is sold onto the local market as either 96% or 98%.
Sulfuric acid can be used in a range of applications including metal treatment, inorganic and organic chemicals processing, fertilizers and animal feed.
